Matthew grew up in Vivian, La attending New Hope Baptist Church. At an early age, he confessed by the profession of his faith in Christ and was baptized under the leadership of the late Rev. T.C. Coleman. Matthew remained a member before relocating to Oscoda, Michigan while serving in the United States Air Force.
Matthew moved his then family of four to Shreveport in 19??. His aunt Phyllis Smith and her husband Charlie (who was a Deacon) were members of the St. Mary B.C. Matthew and his family joined the church in 19??. While there Matthew participated in in numerous organizations.

He served faithfully as the Sunday School Superintendent for 30 years, but remained the New Member Orientation Teacher.
He was a faithful member for 45 years.
One thing Matthew knew well, was his Bible. He attended District Brotherhood meetings, Conventions and Conference that empowered his knowledge of the Word of God. He spent many days and nights studying God's Word and teaching to all who would listen.
One of his favorite scriptures is: That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. - Romans 10:9
Matthew was respected and considered a great teacher in his church. He has met many people during his personal ministry in the church.
Young Boys and Girls looked up to Mr. Stroy for guidance and a mentor. He was able to establish a bond with them that cant be explained. He was their coach, their teacher, their mentor and friend. He took out his time to learn different sports to teach the young people of his church fundamentals and mechanics of softball, volleyball and basketball but to also have fun. He not only inspired the youth in the church but also those in the community. He gave them his time, he was their listening ear, their teacher & mentor, but mostly someone that cared about them. There hasn't been anyone else like him since.
